In my dramatic structure class we've been discussing Uncle Vanya. It's a play that was written in the 1800's by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. Uncle Vanya is about a group of people who's life's regrets, missed opportunities and unrequited love's deeply depress them well into their old age. For majority of the play the characters sit around and talk about how dreadful their lives are but yet they do nothing about it. At the end of the play the characters have made no progress and will probably continue to complain about their lives.
This play is very hard to read since is was written in the 1800's but if you can find an adaptation about it, it could be quite funny.
I just wanted to mention this play in my blog because I know it's a horrible feeling to live your life with regrets. I could say that I regret not going to grad school immediately after graduating from undergrad. But, that decision was in the past and there was nothing I could do about it but go to grad school. It might have been a little later but I was unhappy with where my life was going and I couldn't see it go down that path any longer so I went to grad school.
People can continuously say they are tired of being in debt, but if all you do is spend and don't save or pay your debts, you will always be in the same situation. You can continue to say that you hate your job but your not looking for a new one so what's the point in complaining. You can say that you are tired of being single but if you don't get out there an take chances, you may never find love.
Go back to school, start your own business, look for a new (rewarding) job, make new friends, ask "that guy" or "that girl" out, work out, eat better, have a drink, go to a party, give to charity, move to a different city, join an organization..... whatever it is that you don't like about your life, change it for the better.
Get off you ass, stop complaining about your miserable life, and do something about it. We all deserve to be happy. And happiness is doing things that you love to do. Live your life with no regrets so on your death bed you can honestly say that you lived your life to the fullest.
What's the difference between a caterpillar and a butterfly?
The butterfly got tired of complaining about crawling and wanted to fly.
Do you want to fly? .

Yoga, Africa, and A hot dog on a stick
In the words of Ice Cube "Today was a good day", But since this post is being added after midnight, Yesterday was a good day. Actually This week was a pretty good week. Although the weather was weird (cold and rainy on Monday thru Wednesday and sunny to and warm today) it was pretty good. I got a 9 out of 10 one my first assignment and believe I will do well on my other class assignment that I turned in yesterday. I know you are curious about the title of this blog, but it has to do with my why my week was really good. My roommates brought it to my attention that our on campus gym has weekly aerobics classes that consist of Yoga, Pilates, Boxercise, Salsa, and Spinning. And the best thing about it is that it's FREE! So I planned to go to Yoga Tuesdays and Thursdays and do Salsa on Mondays and Wednesdays. I defiantly plan on getting fine with resources like that.
Today I didn't have class so I went to the noon Yoga class and had a very strenuous yet good workout and the hit some weights afterward. Cal State L.A. had there fall feast today and so there were a lot of booths set up in front of the union. I got a free hot dog on a stick and lemon aid. There was a line of people waiting for a spin on the wheel to win a prize. You could win a water bottle, a draw string bag, a tee shirt etc. I spun the wheel and won a ticket. At first I'm like, a ticket? I really wanted a tee shirt, you could always use a tee shirt. But I couldn't switch the prize. The ticket was to a show on campus to see a group called Step Africa later on that night. I had no one to go with but since I had nothing else to do on a Thursday night, I went.
Step Africa was nice, basically 7 people stepping like how Black Fraternities and Sororities step at Greek Shows. The Audience was mixed with other races who probably haven't seen stepping before, so I'm sure it was very exciting to them. To someone who has seen it at an HBCU, it was entertaining but I guess I'm used to more tricks and music and dancing along with the stepping. This group was all about the stepping, but they had good stories between the stepping, added a funny skit and had the crowd get on stage and participate. It was very entertaining and I'm glad I won the free ticket, but I still want a tee shirt.
That was my Thursday in a nut shell, I will write again once I have something interesting to tell.
